Price vs. conditions in the Caribbean

The Caribbean follows an opposite rhythm from the Mediterranean. Peak season here is winter, December through April, because that is when Northern Hemisphere travelers most want warmth and when hurricane risk is at its lowest. Prices follow that demand, so the winter months are typically the most expensive on the calendar.

The shoulder months, November and May, offer the best balance of price and conditions. Weather is still comfortable, the probability of tropical storms is low, and fares come down from their winter highs. For travelers with flexible dates, these are often the most efficient months to book.

Summer and early fall, June through October, are cheaper on paper but come with a real caveat: this is peak Atlantic hurricane season. Explora schedules fewer Caribbean voyages in this window, and the ones that run may be repositioning itineraries or Grand Journeys transiting the region. The lower price reflects the trade-off in conditions and certainty.

Explora's Caribbean itineraries focus on the smaller, yacht-scale harbors rather than the major cruise terminals. That matters most during peak season when the big ships are out in force. On the quieter shoulder-month sailings, the difference is less pronounced.
