Price vs. conditions in the Mediterranean

Winter sailings from November through February are consistently the cheapest months on the calendar, often by a meaningful margin. The trade-off is real: the Med in January is cool to cold, some smaller ports reduce their opening hours, and certain island itineraries are less appealing without the outdoor warmth. That said, major ports like Barcelona, Lisbon, and the French Riviera are pleasant year-round, and the ships are noticeably quieter.

The shoulder seasons, October and April through May, are the sweet spot for most travelers. Prices are below summer highs, the weather is reliably mild, and the iconic destinations are busy but not at peak crowds. Spring also means wildflowers, green hillsides, and a version of the Greek coast and Amalfi that feels nothing like July.

Summer, June through August, is peak pricing for a reason. The light is long, the sea is calm, and destinations like Santorini, Dubrovnik, and the Balearics are fully open. If budget is flexible, summer delivers the full Mediterranean picture. If you're watching the bottom line, May and October give you 80% of the experience at a fraction of the cost.

One note on how to read the table: the from-price reflects the lowest available fare on any sailing that month, which can be a shorter voyage or an off-peak departure. Use the median column as the more reliable signal for what a typical sailing costs.
