Getting ashore

Cozumel has three piers. Punta Langosta sits in town, a short walk to San Miguel's plaza and malecon, while Puerta Maya and the International Pier are a few miles south and need a taxi into town or to the beaches. Check your assigned pier before planning, since it changes whether town is on foot or by cab. One day easily covers a reef trip plus town.

Weather and when to visit

• December to April (peak cruise season). The dry window: comfortable highs of 80 to 84 F tempered by trade winds, low rain, and excellent underwater visibility often beyond 100 feet.
• May to November (wet and hurricane season). Hot and humid with highs reaching 88 to 90 F in midsummer; brief sharp afternoon downpours are common. Atlantic hurricane season runs June through November, peaking September to October, though direct hits are infrequent.
