Miami is the busiest cruise port in the United States, set on Dodge Island in Biscayne Bay a mile or two off downtown. The reward of a day here is contrast within a short rideshare: bayfront parks and museums steps from the ship, Wynwood's street-art murals and Little Havana's Cuban cafes a quick hop inland, and the Art Deco strip of South Beach across the causeway.

What to do on a day in Miami

  • Bayfront Park, 32 acres of green space on Biscayne Bay minutes from the terminals, with bay views and walking paths
  • Bayside Marketplace, the open-air waterfront shopping and dining district about 1.3 miles from the port
  • Pérez Art Museum Miami (PAMM), the bayfront art museum known for its hanging-garden columns, reached free via the Metromover Museum Park station
  • Phillip and Patricia Frost Museum of Science, with an aquarium and planetarium, sharing the Museum Park station with PAMM
  • Wynwood Walls, the outdoor street-art district of large-scale murals and galleries, about 15 to 20 minutes by rideshare
  • Little Havana along Calle Ocho (SW 8th Street), with Cuban coffee windows, cigar shops, and Versailles Restaurant and Ball & Chain

Getting ashore

Ships dock at PortMiami on Dodge Island, roughly 1 to 2 miles from downtown via the MacArthur Causeway or the undersea PortMiami Tunnel, with South Beach about 4 miles on. A rideshare or taxi reaches downtown in 15 to 20 minutes; one day is ample to combine the bayfront museums with one neighborhood like Wynwood or Little Havana.
