Getting ashore

Ships berth alongside at the Matsugae International Terminal, close to central Nagasaki, no tender required. The southern cluster of Glover Garden, Dejima, and Chinatown is walkable straight from the pier, while the Peace Park and bomb museum sit across town and need the tram. One day works if you pick one side, the harbor-history cluster on foot or the Peace Park by tram, rather than trying to cram both.

Weather and when to visit

• Spring (March to May). Typically mild and comfortable, average highs climbing from around 59F in March to the mid-70s by May, with moderate rainfall. Mid-April to mid-May is the most pleasant stretch.
• Autumn (September to November). Typically mild with steadily dropping temperature and humidity, comfortable for walking, with the best conditions from mid-October to mid-November. Early September can still carry summer heat and humidity.
