What to do on a day in Ocho Rios

• Dunn's River Falls, the 180-foot terraced cascade you climb hand-in-hand with a guide, about a 5-minute drive from the pier and the area's defining attraction

• Blue Hole (Island Gully Falls), a less commercialized set of waterfalls and deep pools in the hills with cliff jumps and a rope swing, a longer transfer up from town

Getting ashore

Ships berth alongside at the Ocho Rios Cruise Terminal or the nearby James Bond Pier, no tender needed, with shops and the town center within about a 15-minute walk. Dunn's River and the hill attractions need a taxi or booked tour, but one day comfortably covers a waterfall climb plus time in town.

Weather and when to visit

• December to April (cruise high season, dry season). Typically warm and dry, daytime highs around 80 to 84 Fahrenheit with only about 5 rainy days a month. January and February are the driest. The wet season runs roughly July through October.
