Explora III: what's new, when it sails, and whether to wait for it.

Explora III is the most significant ship in the fleet since the line launched. It's the first LNG-powered hull, it adds three venues the earlier ships don't have, and its Owner's Residence is reimagined by Patricia Urquiola. If you're choosing between booking Explora now and holding out for III, this is the decision laid out plainly.

When Explora III sails

The ship enters service in summer 2026. The Jannik Sinner Prelude Journey runs 24 to 25 July 2026 as the ceremonial first sailing, with the first regular revenue voyage following in August 2026. Inaugural and early sailings on a new ship book out early, especially the top suites, so if III is the one you want, the time to hold a suite is well ahead of the launch.

What Explora III has that I and II don't

LNG propulsion

The first liquefied-natural-gas ship in the Explora fleet, with a well-to-wake greenhouse-gas reduction of up to 80% or more versus conventional marine fuel. If sustainability factors into your decision, this is the cleaner ship.

Shore Club on 11

A beach-club-style restaurant at The Conservatory, replacing the Gelateria & Crêperie that Explora I and II have. Included in the fare. Carries onto IV, V, and VI as well.

The Chef's Table by Explora Journeys

Private dining where you build the menu with the chefs from scratch. New to III and IV. An extra-charge experience, usually booked for a celebration.

The Cellar by Explora Journeys

A wine bar guided by Cellar Masters: Old World classics, New World favourites, rare vintages by the glass. New from III onward.

Patricia Urquiola Owner's Residence

The single largest suite on the ship, reinterpreted by Patricia Urquiola, one of the most celebrated names in contemporary design. A different layout and finish from the Owner's Residence on I and II, and the strongest reason a design-led buyer might wait for III.

Reimagined Ocean Wellness & Fitness

The spa and fitness areas are reworked into a single connected space rather than the separate zones on I and II.

Reimagined Nautilus Club

The kids' and teens' club is redesigned, making III the more family-capable ship in the fleet.

New boutiques

A Chopard boutique debuts, with Cartier and Rolex returning. Retail is a small thing, but it signals the tier Explora is positioning III at.

Should you wait for Explora III?

The honest answer is that it depends on three things: how flexible your dates are, how much the new venues and the Urquiola design matter to you, and whether the specific itinerary you want exists on III at all.

Wait for III if…

  • You want the newest ship in the fleet and your dates run into late 2026 or beyond
  • The Patricia Urquiola Owner's Residence, the Chef's Table, or The Cellar are a genuine draw
  • The LNG sustainability story factors into your decision
  • You're traveling with children and want the reimagined Nautilus Club

Book Explora I or II now if…

  • You want to sail sooner than late summer 2026
  • You'd rather a proven ship with two seasons of service behind it
  • The itinerary you want only exists on the earlier ships
  • You're booking a mid-tier suite, where the hardware difference between ships is modest

For most suite tiers the difference between ships is real but not dramatic. The clearest reasons to wait are the Urquiola Owner's Residence and the new dining venues. Tell me the dates and the suite you're considering and I'll tell you whether III is worth holding for, or whether the right voyage is already sailing.

Thinking about Explora III?
