EXPLORA I · South America & Amazon

11 nights, San Juan to Manaus

February 5, 2027 – February 17, 2027 · 11 nights · 9 stops

Explora's name for it: A Journey of Amazon Exploration & Cultural Discovery

This sailing runs one way from San Juan to Manaus, eleven nights, nine stops, descending the Caribbean before turning up the Amazon. It front-loads the islands. You start at the Old San Juan piers, where the cobbled grid of pastel houses and two stone forts sit a few steps from the gangway. Then small-ship calls a larger line can't make: Gustavia, where St Barths keeps big ships out so only the outer harbor and a tender bring you in, and Saint-Pierre, the town that rebuilt among the ruins of the 1902 Mont Pelee eruption, its volcano museum holding a church bell deformed by the heat blast. Bridgetown splits between Georgian streets and the turtles of Carlisle Bay. Then the river takes over: the Meeting of the Waters at Santarem, the 75-person village of Boca da Valeria, and Manaus and its rubber-boom opera house a thousand miles up the Amazon.

This rewards travelers who want range over routine, a working Caribbean city like Port of Spain alongside a one-room-school village reached only by tender. Skip it if you want beach days and a tidy round trip. The Amazon ports are logistically real: Macapa has no terminal and immigration can run five hours, Boca da Valeria runs on small tips you carry ashore. The one-way shape means flying home from Manaus.

Explora I is all-suite, all-oceanfront.
