8 nights, Miami to Miami
Explora's name for it: A Journey of Enchanting Ancient History & Coastal Splendour
Eight nights, round-trip from Miami, six calls down the western Caribbean and back. The pace is brisk through the middle and bookended by easy island days. You get a Jamaica beach-and-waterfall stop at Ocho Rios, where the famous Dunn's River climb is a human chain up a staircase of rock, then a stretch of Central America that is all about what lies inland: the Mayan stelae of Quirigua and the Rio Dulce jungle canyon out of Santo Tomas de Castilla, a living coral wall you snorkel straight off the sand at West Bay on Roatan, and cave tubing or the barrier reef out of Belize City. It closes on Key West, where Old Town fits inside a square mile you cover entirely on foot.
This itinerary rewards travelers who want water and reef over cities, and who are willing to book ahead. Three of the six calls (Santo Tomas, Roatan's West Bay, Belize) are transport-out ports with little to nothing walkable at the pier, so the day is the excursion you choose. If you want to stroll off the ship into a town each morning, this is the wrong route; Ocho Rios and Key West are the only two that deliver that. Belize tenders ashore, and combining a far inland ruin with reef time in one window leaves no margin if the return boat runs late.
Explora I is all-suite and all-oceanfront.
