Getting ashore

Ships dock at Khalifa Bin Salman Port, an industrial container facility on a man-made island roughly 20 km from central Manama, so a shuttle, taxi, or organized transfer is required to reach anything; nothing is walkable from the berth. One day is comfortably enough to pair the souq with the fort and the museum.

Weather and when to visit

• November to March (the winter cruise season when ships call). Mild and dry, the only comfortable window of the year, with daytime highs commonly in the low-to-mid 20s C / 70s F and cool evenings. Pleasant for sightseeing and souq walking.
