Ships dock at the working fishing piers (such as UniSea or the container docks) roughly 4 km from the town center, about a 45-minute walk, so most travelers use a shuttle or taxi. One day is plenty to combine the cathedral, museum, and a WWII hike, since the town itself is small.

Weather and when to visit

• Summer cruise season (roughly June to September). Typically cool, windy, and frequently overcast with rain or fog; summer highs sit around 50 to 55 F. Conditions change fast, so waterproof and windproof layers are essential and sunshine is a bonus, not a plan.
