23 nights, San Juan to San Juan

February 5, 2027 – March 1, 2027 · 23 nights · 15 stops · round-trip

Explora's name for it: An Extended Journey into Island Elegance & Mysteries of the Amazon

This is a 23-night round trip from San Juan that runs the Eastern Caribbean down to the equator, then turns a thousand miles up the Amazon before working back to where it started. The front and back ends are island days you can walk off the gangway into: San Juan ties up at the Old San Juan piers, with the cathedral and the Paseo a 5 to 15 minute stroll and El Morro a climb beyond. Gustavia tenders straight into a small French harbor that has kept big ships out by design. Saint-Pierre lands you in a town rebuilt among the ruins of the 1902 Mont Pelée eruption, the deformed church bell in its museum the quiet centerpiece. Then the character changes entirely. Past the Marco Zero monument at Macapá the ship pushes into brown river water for the Amazon stretch: the Meeting of the Waters at Santarém, the 75-person village of Boca da Valeria, the rubber-boom opera house at Manaus, and the prison islands off French Guiana.

This rewards a patient traveler who wants the river, not a beach circuit. The Amazon calls carry real friction: Macapá immigration can run five hours or more, and some lines do not land passengers at all. Parintins shows a compact version of its festival unless your sailing hits the three June days, and the Alter do Chão sandbars sit underwater on a high-water call. If you came for reliable swimming and short shore days, pick a tighter Caribbean loop instead.

Explora I is all-suite and all-oceanfront.
