Getting ashore

Ships berth at Stormont Wharf, roughly 3 miles north of the city across industrial dockland where pedestrians are not permitted to walk out, so you take the port shuttle, a taxi, or a booked tour to the Visit Belfast Centre by City Hall, about 10 to 15 minutes. One day is enough to cover the center and one major site like Titanic Belfast without rushing.

Weather and when to visit

• May to June. Typically mild and the brightest stretch of the year, highs commonly in the mid to high teens Celsius, June averaging the most daily sunshine. Showers arrive on short notice, so a light rain layer is the standing rule.
• July to August. Typically the warmest months but still cool by Mediterranean standards, highs often around 17 to 19C. August is the wettest of the summer, with rain on a high share of days. Pack layers even on a clear morning.
• September to October. Typically cooling and increasingly changeable, highs easing back through the teens, more frequent rain and wind as autumn sets in. Daylight shortens noticeably by October.
