What to do on a day in Osaka

• Osaka Castle, the reconstructed keep above stone ramparts and moats, set in a large free park, reached on the Chuo subway line with a transfer

Getting ashore

Most ships berth at Tempozan Cruise Terminal, a five-minute flat walk from Osakako subway station; some smaller vessels use the Sakishima/Cosmo Tower berth, which is gated off from the subway and needs the ship shuttle. With direct subway access, one day comfortably covers two anchors, for example the castle plus Dotonbori, but Kyoto needs a full eight hours ashore.
