Getting ashore

Ships anchor in the bay and tender to the Vieux Port or the adjacent Nouveau Port, only about 150 meters apart, dropping you directly on the harbor among the cafes and shops. The town is small and flat apart from the climb to the citadel, so one day on foot easily covers it; a beach run to Pampelonne would need a taxi or shuttle.

• May to June. Typically warm, sunny, and dry, daytime highs around 21 to 25C, though the sea is still cool early in this window. Among the most pleasant times to walk the town.
• September to October. Typically warm into September with highs near 26C and a sea still holding summer warmth; October turns markedly wetter and is usually the rainiest month of the year.
