Getting ashore

Most larger ships berth at Breivika, about 4 km north of the center, because they cannot fit under the Tromsø Bridge; use the ship shuttle or local bus rather than walking the industrial road. Smaller ships dock at Prostneset right in the center. One day covers the cable car, the cathedral across the bridge, and one museum comfortably.

• June to August (main season). Typical highs around 9 to 13°C, July warmest. Midnight sun roughly May 19 to July 26 means 24-hour daylight; summer precipitation falls as rain, not snow, with frequent cloud.
• May and September (shoulder). Cooler, typically 5 to 8°C, with white nights still lingering into early September and a higher chance of grey, wet days.
