6 nights, Barcelona to Civitavecchia (Rome)
Explora's name for it: A Journey of Iconic Islands & Coastal Wonders
Six nights, seven calls, Barcelona to Rome with no day at sea. That is a fast itinerary, and it crosses four countries to do it. You open in Barcelona, where Gaudí's Sagrada Família and the medieval Gothic Quarter sit within reach of one walkable core. Then the arc runs south and east: Ibiza for Dalt Vila, the walled old town climbing to a 14th-century cathedral; La Goulette as the gateway to ancient Carthage and the blue-and-white village of Sidi Bou Said; and Valletta, the Knights' honey-limestone capital that holds Caravaggio's largest painting in its co-cathedral. Sicily brings Taormina's 3rd-century BC Greek theatre framing Mount Etna, before Amalfi's striped Arab-Norman cathedral over the main square. You close at Civitavecchia, Rome's deepwater port.
This one rewards a traveler who likes range over depth and does not mind moving. You get Spanish, Tunisian, Maltese, and Italian ports in under a week, which is the appeal and the cost. Two are tender ports, Taormina and Amalfi, and two are gateways: La Goulette puts the real day in Tunis and Carthage, and Civitavecchia puts it in Rome, both a drive from the pier. If you want long, unhurried port days or time inside Rome itself, weigh a slower itinerary. If the variety is the point, this delivers it.
EXPLORA I is all-suite and all-oceanfront.
