Ocean Cay is MSC's private Bahamian island, a former industrial sand-dredging site rebuilt as a marine reserve about 65 miles from Miami and 20 miles south of Bimini. What sets it apart from other cruise-line beach days is the evening: the ship lingers late, so the island's lighthouse light show and after-dark beach become part of the call rather than a daytime-only stop.

What to do on a day in Ocean Cay

• South Beach, the longest stretch on the island, lagoon-side near food and drink and good for swimming and water sports
• The lighthouse, with 165 steps to a viewing platform over the reserve, which becomes the centerpiece of the nightly LED and laser light show
• The Marine Conservation Center, with indoor and outdoor coral tanks and a Discovery Pavilion tied to the island's reef-restoration program
• Snorkeling, paddleboards, kayaks, and jet-ski rentals around the reserve's clear shallow water
• Lighthouse Bay and the free trams that connect the ship to the eight beaches (the nearest is about a five-minute walk)
• On late-departure calls, the Luna Libre beach party with DJ, bonfire, and dancing after the light show

Getting ashore

The ship berths directly at the island pier with no tender, so you walk on and off at will; free trams run to the more distant beaches while Lighthouse Bay is a short walk. It is a full beach day rather than a touring port, and one call is enough, with the evening light show the part most worth staying ashore for.
