Rovinj is the Venetian-flavored fishing town on Croatia's Istrian coast, a tight knot of pastel houses on a former island rising to a single hilltop church. Getting ashore

Larger ships anchor offshore and tender passengers to a pier on the main harbor promenade, right at the foot of the old town. The historic center is pedestrian-only and every main sight is on foot from the tender pier, so no transport is needed and one day is comfortably enough to walk the lanes, climb the bell tower, and still reach the Golden Cape park.

Weather and when to visit

• May to June. Typically warm and sunny, daytime highs from around 22 C in May into the mid to upper 20s C by June, with the sea warming from cool to swimmable. Long, bright days for the open promenade and the climb up Grisia.
• July to September. Typically warm to hot, highs around 28 to 30 C in midsummer easing through September, with calm, settled conditions. The cold bora wind is mostly a winter event and seldom reaches Istria in the calling season.
