Eight nights, six calls, round-trip from Miami: this is a Greater Antilles and Leeward loop with two forts, two beach islands, and one rock scramble doing the heavy lifting. The arc runs from the Dominican Republic's north coast to Puerto Rico, then out to Virgin Gorda and Anguilla. San Juan is the standout call: Explora ties up at the Old San Juan piers themselves, so the cobbled grid, the cathedral, and El Morro start a few steps from the gangway. Walk the Paseo de la Princesa before the heat, then climb to the fort for late-morning light. At Spanish Town the real draw is The Baths, where house-size granite boulders pile into grottoes and tidal pools you wade through to reach Devil's Bay. Puerto Plata offers a cable car up Mount Isabel de Torres, worth it only on a clear morning before the summit caps in cloud.
Who it rewards: anyone who wants forts and history balanced against pure beach days. Cayo Levantado and Road Bay are tender-only swim-and-relax stops, fine if you want sand, thin if you came for towns. Skip this loop if you dislike tendering or want a city-dense itinerary, since three of the six calls are beach-first. The Miami bookends are gateway days, not destination days.
